August 2016, on tour with Capital Cities in sunny California, I received an email from the other side of the world—Yerevan, Armenia.

She shared a demo—a dance beat with the Armenian phrase “Vuy Aman” sung over and over again. This old folk expression of sorrow and defeat, inspired me.
